Honda of Tulsa ATV
A 10-year-old Poteau boy died in a Tulsa hospital after two all-terrain vehicles collided Sunday near Poteau.
The 10-year-old was riding a 2015 Polaris Ace ATV westbound at about 7 p.m. Sunday on a county road east of Poteau and just west of River Bend Road in LeFlore County, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
A 2016 Honda Pioneer ATV, driven by a 14-year-old, was westbound just ahead of the Polaris with 15- and 5-year-old passengers
After the Pioneer ATV attempted to turn into a private drive, the 10-year-old attempted to pass them on the right and struck the other ATV.
The Polaris ATV rolled and pinned the 10-year-old. A passenger of the other ATV freed him, according to the report. Emergency responders flew the 10-year-old to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition.
The 10-year-old died from those injuries, according to the report.
Both ATVs were equipped with seat belts. None were in use, according to the report. No one was wearing a helmet. Troopers list the inexperienced driver as the cause of the collision, according to the report.
